The Search for JouleOS

This study reviews how kernels, builds, guests and instruction sets are composed today, shows that none of them makes energy a condition of an agent's action, and lists checkable requirements for a machine that would.

In plain words

  1. Today's computers stack many separate layers, and AI (artificial intelligence) agents are added on top without changing what is underneath.
  2. None of those layers asks, before an agent acts, how much energy the action will use or whether it is allowed.
  3. A machine built for agents should measure energy, give each agent a strict budget, and refuse anything that breaks it.
