Download RCE and the RCE IDE
RCE (the Reality Code Engine) is a language in which a program is written once as a checked state machine and code in other languages is generated from it. The RCE IDE bundles the editor, the checker, a language server and an MCP server. The specification, the Lean library, the reference checker, the book, the examples and the standard host libraries are public source under MIT OR Apache-2.0. The IDE release archives are prebuilt binaries only: from 0.1.2 on, they are built from a private engine and the source in the rce-ide repository is the 0.1.2 snapshot. The archives are free to download. The research behind it is in the RCE paper.
- Write a program once and generate it in many languages.
- The checker rejects broken input before anything runs.
- Download, check the file against its published hash, then unpack and run.
Try it in the browser
The RCE playground runs the reference checker, compiled to WebAssembly, in your browser.
Type a program and see whether it is accepted, which rule it breaks, and the trace of each example. Nothing is installed and nothing is sent to a server.
RCE IDE v0.1.3
Release notes: github.com/openIE-dev/rce-ide/releases/tag/v0.1.3.
Each archive contains rce-ide, rce (the checker), rce-lsp, rce-mcp, the README and the license files.
The specification draft a build implements is printed by rce --version. There is one language: the specification at one commit (2.7), with no per-module version selection.

Verify and install
- Download the archive for your platform and
SHA256SUMSinto the same folder. - Check the hash. If the file was changed or damaged in transit, this step fails.
On Windows, runsha256sum -c SHA256SUMS --ignore-missing # Linux shasum -a 256 -c SHA256SUMS --ignore-missing # macOSGet-FileHash .\rce-ide-0.1.2-x86_64-pc-windows-gnu.zipin PowerShell and compare the result with the line inSHA256SUMS. - Unpack it:
tar xzf rce-ide-<version>-<platform>.tar.gz, or extract the zip on Windows. - Run
./rce-ideto open the editor, or./rce --versionand./rce(the list of commands) for the command-line checker. - macOS only: the binaries are ad-hoc signed and not notarized by Apple, so Gatekeeper may block them. After checking the hash, clear the quarantine flag in the unpacked folder:
xattr -d com.apple.quarantine rce rce-ide rce-lsp rce-mcp
Known limits
- The Linux aarch64 and Windows builds were cross-built and have not been run on that hardware. Reports of success or failure are welcome as GitHub issues.
- The Linux x86_64 build was smoke-tested without a physical GPU.
- The macOS build is not notarized.
- The IDE archives are binary only. The source for 0.1.3 is not published, so a 0.1.3 binary cannot be rebuilt from public repositories.
- The 0.1.2 archives have their own SHA256SUMS.
